FINU
FINU of the planet Fissa are a humanoid, tall race that possess many traits familiar to humans; it is speculated that a lost colony ship over 400 years ago of humans was integrated into the indigienous society, and the modern day Finu is the result. The shortest Finu tends to stand at 5'9", though they rarely exceed 7'0". They exist in a feudal society, their world presided over by hundreds of clans, all with their own unique beliefs and traditions. There are, however, only a dozen or so dominant clans of their regions; many smaller clans act as vassals to these more influential clans and often rely upon them for protection and infrastructure. Finus age similarly to humans, but they are younger for longer, with an extended lifespan of up to 150 years.
What remains consistent between all clans is a high importance placed on familial ties (of varying definitions) and martial prowess; all Finusians at least know of their aggressive hand-to-hand combat style known as MAT-KALA, though not all are trained in it, and some clans place greater importance on it than others. Some Finu even appear to develop a rare trait in the form of NEUROGENIC ABILITIES.
Those born with the trait are known as YUL-TOK, or star-touched, and undergo specific training, though this varies per clan. Fissa is a technologically advanced planet and its species is capable of spaceflight, and was the first alien race to make contact with the humans of the Penglai system. Because of this, they have a very strong relationship with Penglai, with many Finusian diplomats and officiates working in conjunction with the Alliance, and many forms of trade established between various clans and Penglai organizations.
asali region
The Asali region of Fissa is located within the equatorial region, though it is wide and expansive enough to encompass a variety of different climates. The majority of Asali, and its southern portion, is blessed with a tropical rainforest climate that is apparent all year round. This is where its central city SELETAR is located, and is the principal home to CLAN SAKAI, the ruling dynasty of Asali.
The southern Seletar quarter is bordered by ocean, where some of Asali's maritime borders are often under contention by rival clans. Environmentally, Asali seas and bordering towns are warm and comfortable in temperature, though its wet season is a regular occurrence every third half-turn and can sometimes bring tropical storms and monsoons.
While all borders of Asali are quite mountainous — Seletar sits on tall cliffs over the sea — the middle of Asali turns to wide plains and tropical forests. The northernmost border of Asali is very mountainous, with peaks so high that they are often topped with snow; for this reason they are treacherous and difficult to pass.
Other mountainous zones in Asali are heavily forested, divided by large rivers and cave systems. While Clan Sakai dominates from their throne in Seletar, Asali is still home to upwards of forty smaller clans that act as Sakai's vassals, and they can be found spread throughout the entire region.
CLAN SAKAI
One of the oldest clans on Fissa, CLAN SAKAI is known for their martial prowess, powerful military force, and their proud and responsible nature. They are typically matriarchal in hierarchy; this is not necessarily due to intentional choice, but as most first-borns of Sakai tend to be female, and thus inherit the throne. Though Sakai is governed by a monarchy who are very actively involved in the running of the region, they are also supported by a council of elected officials. They represent Sakai's military force, the smaller vassals found in Asali, and diplomats.
All clansmen of Sakai possess the same tattoo; a half-crescent blade and triangular design that represents their cliffs and the traditional Sakai blade, the KINSIU. Clan Sakai's involvement as a major player can even be traced back to the attempt of unification by the Aihar clan several generations ago. While Sakai participated tenuously, they were one of the first to break the treaty and refuse a unified government, as they preferred to govern their own way. Though they may seem harsh and imperious to external clans, they fiercely protect the people and land of Asali, and have very successful diplomats stationed across the universe; both in their own galaxy, in Penglai, and beyond.
monarchy
Clan Sakai's central governing body is that of their monarchy, and the TEMIAR family is the region's oldest dynasty. The inheritance of the throne is awardest always to the first born child no matter their gender, though in some extremely rare cases the eldest children have elected to abdicate or in the tragic events of their death, and the matter of inheritance then follows as: any remaining siblings, then to the closest possible relative who is best suited to the role. By chance, in modern time most inheritors and monarchs of the realm have been female, leading to a matriarchal society, which is supported by a near entirely female-only royal guard force, who are revered across Fissa as some of the finest fighters in the galaxy.
The current ruler is the matriarch JAYA KUMA'RAN TEMIAR; her royal title is KUMA'RAN but she is addressed as queen, your highness, and ran jaya. Her eldest daughter is SURIA RAYA'VUE TEMIAR, whose title is princess, your highness, or raya suria. She is to inherit the throne. The youngest Temiar, KOTARI RAYA'VUA TEMIAR (prince, highness or raya kotari) has been missing for five years, and is the source of much rumor and family disgrace. In addition to the monarchy rule of Ran Jaya, the queen works closely alongside her TAIS, or council, a collection of respected elected officials to represent all aspects of the clan and their region: as military personnel, diplomats, and representatives from smaller clans. Sakai's royalty's reputation precedes them both on Fissa and in Penglai. They are known to be excellent negotiators and value diplomacy, but they are fierce and easily offended people who believe in the respect they command and deserve.
society
Given Sakai's encompassing reach across the Asali region, Clan Sakai's society can be something of a melting pot thanks to the various smaller Finusian clans scattered throughout it. However, all of Sakai and their vassals have a strong belief in the power and connection of familial ties; whether it be by blood, or chosen family. Star travelers from across the universe have been welcomed into Sakai and in special cases may be granted clansman status if they are a refugee or exceptional, though there are at times some disagreement between more traditional and contemporary Sakais over just how welcome these travelers are.
Due to the dispersion of Sakai and smaller clans throughout Asali, the region is home to many unique cultural practices depending on location, though many celebrations throughout the year are always centered on family. The clan as a whole is technologically advanced and works closely in an alliance with a neighboring clan for an exchange of protection for their new developments, and the royal capital Seletar is a shining example of what achievements Sakai possesses.
While all Sakai clansmen receive their traditional Sakai tattoo, any further Finusian tattoos are granted to them through exceptional achievements in whatever life path they choose. To be without a great deal of tattoos in Sakai is considered unsatisfactory. Many achievements are granted through military service. While not all clansmen are required to enlist, Sakai's military force is extremely well-supported and servicemembers earn benefits and a great deal of respect.
Fighting aptitude is highly respected in Clan Sakai, and this is demonstrated both by their admired royal guard, and in the annual MAT-KALA TOURNAMENTS, otherwise known as KISAYA which they host in Seletar. This sees many foreign clans and dignitaries attending and is a huge affair. To win a kisaya is an enormous privilege and is the source of pride for many. Any members of the royal guard are no longer permitted to enter, after too many years of winning undefeated. Nonetheless, most Sakai clansmen are trained in Mat-Kala from a young age, and also learn how to fight with the traditional Sakai curved blade, the KINSIU, though this is more for ceremony than actual practice in modern times. Mat-Kala is also used for performance, and Sakai have developed fighting forms of dance inspired by the traditional combat style.
